GENTLEMEN kindly note, there’s nothing sissy about being part of a splendid choral sound. contact me to get involved!
The Enfield Community Singers lit up a quiet night at The Aksular Turkish Restaurant, Silver Street with a forty five strong turnout for their third anniversary celebration dinner at this super new eating house in central Enfield.
After too much drinking, the choir woke up other diners up with several choruses from their repertoire including ‘Sing, Sing A Song’ and ‘Just In Love’ to tumultuous applause. We must be doing something right!!
Join our choir by contacting me, Simon Gilbert, choral director.
Now that we are approaching our third year of existence with many highly successful concerts in the borough, I have time to reflect on how far we’ve come in a relatively short time.
We’ve done unbelievably well, BUT I can’t be complacent. We need to bring the choir to a higher performance level; that’s to say paying more attention to what the song is saying to you, and telling that story or message to the audience. Singing all the right notes at the right time is never enough. Does the audience believe what you’re telling them ?
Currently, we urgently need more male input if we are to do justice to the really big pieces in our repertoire, such as ” Nessun Dorma”, “Va Pensiero” ( from “Nabucco”) our splendid selection from Les Miserables and our terrific Irving Berlin medley “Steppin’ Out”
SO, you MEN out there who may consider singing sissy or prissy, what can be more thrilling than being part of a great choir, bringing out all the feeling and emotion contained in the above pieces and getting rapturous applause as we have had already.
Here are some great testimonials from a number of my lovely choir members; why don’t you take a leaf out of their book and come along.
“I love every choir session whether practice or performance and have made lots and lots of lovely friends. Why don’t you come along and join, adding to my ever increasing list of new friends”
” The total joy of singing with others feeling the same. Leave your other life at the door for a time, so relaxing; such pleasure sharing our songs with others and seeing their enjoyment. I’m totally hooked !! ”
” I love every moment of being part of the choir and to Simon and Lawrence for making the experience so uplifting and enjoyable”
” The choir for me is a wonderful escape from the stresses of life. I love learning new songs. Simon and Lawrence are amazing and patient”
” Singing with the choir gives me such a lift. Practice night is a bright spot in my week. Lovely people, lovely atmosphere, great songs, I thoroughly recommend it ” Judith Biggs
” If your life is lacking ZING, why not come along and SING! It’s fun and uplifting, making new friends and freeing the mind from the stress of modern living…… and No, you don’t have to be a PAVAROTTI !!” Sandra Mayhew
Long time friend and excellent soprano singer Linda Watts joined The Community Singers in the recent “Let The People Sing!” production as the Dugdale Centre in Enfield. On Sunday 8th May, Linda sing as part of our ‘Super Singalong Show’ to a packed auditorium. As always, Linda wore a beautiful dress and gave a memorising performance.
I also had the great pleasure of performing a duet with her on stage; as you can see from the picture above. It was a real pleasure to sing with such an amazing singer.
Watch this space for more news on up-coming events and shows. We hope you’ll come along and join in at our next Super Singalong Show!!
My Enfield based choir group ‘The Community Singers’ recently performed at The Dugdale Centre in Enfield, North London.
In what turned out to be a very well received “Let The People Sing!” show on Sunday 18th May at The Dugdale Centre in Enfield Town, The Community Singers caused a sensation with their “Super Singalong Show”.
Beginning with a tremendous opening chorus of “Another Opening, Another Show !” The Community Singers captured the audience with a repertoire of great songs including Edelweiss, Sing A Song, The Last Waltz, Consider Yerself, On The Street Where You Live, Bright Eyes and Morning Has Broken.
Below are a few excerpts of The Community Singers performance.
The Community Singers often perform around Enfield and surrounding areas in North London. As soon as new dates are confirmed, they will be posted here on the website. So watch this space!!
The atmosphere at our choir rehearsals is always great as we’re all there for the same purpose, a love of singing. Choir members come in from across the Enfield area and are right amongst the age groups from 16 to 50+. We have two choir groups and usually rehearse every week.
Here is a great review with regard to our hugely successful show May 18th at The Dugdale Centre Enfield
“May we, through your newspaper, express our thanks to Simon Gilbert and Company, The Enfield Community Singers, The Freezywater Junior Singers and soprano, Linda Watts for a wonderful show of “Let The People Sing!” at The Dugdale Centre. They were outstanding and produced a show to rival anything in The West End. The show was superb value for money. Congratulations to all.
From their tremendous opening chorus, ” Another Opening, Another Show !” The Singers captured and held the audience with a continuous stream of great numbers, including Edelweiss, Sing A Song, The Last Waltz, Consider Yerself, On The Street Where You Live, Bright Eyes and Morning Has Broken.
The Freezywater Junior Singers delighted the audience with their song selections, including Electricity from Billy Elliott, while star soprano Linda Watts mesmorised with her stunning performances and beautiful dresses. “A really great show !” were the words on everybody’s lips as they left the theatre.
An historic moment last night 12th July when the entire audience stood at the end of our concert ” Let The People Sing !” at Mount Carmel at St. Georges Catholic Church. Our Enfield Community Singers were heralded by one and all for a terrific evening of entertaining songs and a request to return as soon as possible; everybody enjoyed Simon’s rendering of “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables !” from Les Miserables; continue the inspiring project!
